List of the Week - Necrons Scythewing
Continuing the List of the Week Series, we have Necrons. Lets look at a list I have been playtesting for awhile and will start to make conversion for the main vehicle that is currently non-existent. The Scythe...
I originally developed the list with Imotekh in mind. I later found that having double the effect firepower would be better. So here is the latest incarnation of the Scythewing list I believe to be optimal...
2000 pts Necrons:
Overlord - naked 90
Overlord - naked 90
Royal Court - 5 Crypteks of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse 195 (1 Cryptek goes into each Immortal unit)
Royal Court - 5 Crypteks of Destruction 175 (1 Cryptek goes into each Immortal unit)
5 Immortals - Night Scythe 185 (Gauss or Tesla, your choice...I have been using Gauss for all of them)
5 Immortals - Night Scythe 185
5 Immortals - Night Scythe 185
5 Immortals - Night Scythe 185
5 Immortals - Night Scythe 185
Doom Scythe 175
Doom Scythe 175
Doom Scythe 175
My Thoughts:
Mounted is 8 KP, Dismounted is 15 KP
Everything is dismounted except in DoW.
MEQ on foot.
Rhino Chassis in the air.
Option to DS everything,
36" Supersonic everything,
Move on 12" and fire...
5 mobile foot units each with 2 36" S 8 AP 2 shots and 5-10 12-24" S 5 AP 4 shots Gauss
5 mobile Gunships each with 4 24" twin-linked S 7 AP - Tesla, Arc shots
3 mobile Gunships each with 4 24" twin-linked S 7 AP - Tesla, Arc shots AND 1 12-42" S 10 AP 1 shot
= 10 shots 36" S 8 AP 2
= 25-50 shots 12-24" S 5 AP 4 Gauss
= 32 twin-linked shots 24"+ (36" effective range) S 7 AP - Tesla (each 6 to hit = 2 auto hits), Arc (each unit w/i 6" roll 6 and take D6 S5 AP - auto hits)
= 3 12-42" S 10 AP 1 shots that hit multiple targets
I have played the Death Ray both ways:
Hitting every model in the unit, under the line AND
Hitting every model, in the unit, under the line
Either way really screws your opponent.
It has been very effective so far. Continued playtesting for the next month or so...

You're not doing the death ray right in either case. The death ray inflicts a number of hits equal to the number of models covered by the line, it hits neither the entire unit under the line nor the exact models covered.

ReplyDeleteIn the playtesting of the Necron Codex, issues come up that have multiple possibilities. Language barriers and simple comma placement will fix the issue.
#1-If the intent was to have the Death Ray be an 'uber' weapon then hitting ALL models in the UNIT under the line is rather Overpowered for the points.
#2-If the intent was to have the Death Ray be like the JotWW then it is rather Underpowered for the points.
I playtested both methods because our group is split and the issue needs an FAQ.
