Combat Patrol 500 pts - 2011 ends with a Tau Clinic taking 1st ???

So, this past weekend there was the annual 500 pt Xmas Combat Patrol run by a local (he's been doing it for years) at a FLGS that is closing on 12/30/11...Krystal Keep has been the goto store for me for a few years since I discovered it and got back into the hobby. It was always an enjoyable environment and before the usual crowd split up the second half of this year, would always be around for a pickup game or three.

So without further ado, I will get to the pictures of the armies and the 5 games that got me to end of the year on a positive note. Caution - PIC HEAVY!

List of the Week - Grey Knights

So...in lieu of tournaments to keep me occupied, I am going to start a 'List of the Week' series. I am always looking for a tournament level competitive build that tickles my fancy and I have the models for...

I have alot of free time to sit on Army Builder and then test the list out against a few of my standard playtest armies.

To start the series off we have...a watered down Draigowing / Deathwing combo.

40K Indy Open GT - What to take?

There is the Indy Open GT coming up in a few months, this will be my first 2 day event.
I have gone to hundreds of tournies that had 3-5 games, 500 - 2500 pts.
Some WYSIWYG only, some 3 paint min, some had comp scores requiring a display board.
Placed top 3, top 10 and bottom of pack.

My question for those of you with GT experience is do I take:
An army that is 'great or best painted' and solid list OR
An army that is 'good paint' but more competitive list.

Yottaquest is always a good time when I go down. It's a little more than an hour drive south. I like to take different lists down than what I would normally play, not because the meta is weaker or the players are less. It is because the Missions are always RANDOM. Everyone plays a different mission. I have some other posts about this issue but after a few tournies with this format I have adapted my lists and playstyle to meet the requirements.

Yottaquest - 1000 pt Tourney

Yottaquest had a Lazy Sunday 1000 pt Tourney. I took Grey Knights to this one, playtesting some units and basic core of my 1850 list. Performance went better than expected. DrkMorals (Emperor's Codex) and Warmonger accompanied me to the Tourney this time. Great day!

I made a similar list to the one below when I first picked up the codex.
It was based off of my Marine Drop Pod theme I was running at the time. Whaddya think?

Ard Boyz Semi's - Games 2d4

The 3rd place from Prelims dropped out and I was up next as the alternate. I only had 3 days to plan the list and I knew I would not get any practice games in, I was excited to go but anxious about the list because honestly I had discounted attending the Semi's.

EGC 1850 Tourney

CAG sponsored 1850 Tourney this weekend. I am pretty excited to go as it's been awhile since the last Tourney.

I didn't make the cut for Ard Boyz Prelims, came in 4th.

Escalation League (Iron Builder) - part 1

A local store, Epic Loot, is holding an Escalation League (Iron Builder) and so I decided to join.
I am running Dark Eldar, I had the Troop units just had to wait for the vehicles...

Blood for the Blood God and a Best Painted

Went to a local 1000 pt Tourney. Good times. Had 3 great games against good opponents.

I took Best Painted with Khorne Daemons. Nice accolade to put into the Bloodthirster's bag.

Working on my display board now. I'll post some finished pics of the army soon.

Ard Boyz Round 1 - Vulkan He'Stan

So, I decided to go with Vulkan this year.
I haven't played him in a tourney in over 3 years.
He was my starter in 5th edition.
He has been benched for too long.

Ard Boyz Prelim Mission Analysis - SW, BA, GK, IG are screwed

Looking at this year's Missions I find there are a few things blatantly obvious and some hidden issues.
I have thought my Ard Boyz list and its many iterations for a few months now but really didn't plan on finalizing it until the Missions were posted.

Lucky for me I don't need to change my list too much...

CAG SLAM 1K - Up Up & Away

There was a small 5 round 1000 pt tourney on a SUNDAY for heaven's sake...I went.
I took my girls with me because it was a Comic store and they would enjoy the atmosphere and pick up some comics.

This was the first Martial Law Event that was non-club participation.
There were 14 entries. One left early and another dropped after 2nd round.

I ran some numbers...I analyzed my 2K BA list...interesting to say the least.

2000 pt Tourney Martial Law Event

There is a 2000 pt Tourney tomorrow, Missions are up and they are kind of meh...
I think I'll be taking Imperial Guard but I am somewhat torn on Blood Angels. I didn't get my Grey Knights completed, maybe for next months Tourneys.

On the Assembly Line...Grey Knights

I have been working on my GK slowly over the past few weeks.

With the Dreadknight and Coteaz I can update my Inquisition themed IG to transfer to GK, not a 'counts-as' army. I plan to run a Coteaz list with DCA, Purifiers and NDKs.

CAG BASH 2011 Games 1, 2 & 3

I had a great time this year. I didn't place like I wanted but the competition has stepped up and is overall stronger than it was last year. "That which does not kill you only makes you stronger"

CAG BASH 2011 is over and a great time yet again!
Martial Law had 7 members fighting for the top spots out of 26 total attendees. There should have been over 40 but due to the local Cincinnati gaming community and their differences, half of the original signed up dropped.

Upcoming Tourney Prep for CAG BASH 2011

We have a major 40k 1850 pt Tourney coming up in a week or so and a few of the Martial Law guys wanted to get in some practice games. I came in second last year, lost to a fellow club member Diamond Dickie by 1 point...I think he is my arch-nemesis in the club. We always play one another at the top tables and the past few Tourneys his Chaos Nurgle list has been rocking my Guard, turning 5 turn Draws into Massacres for him. I hope to meet him this year and exact some redemption. Either way it is always a great Tourney with a large turnout. I wanted to get a few more in next week but we'll see what life allows...

DB Cooper Con 2011 Spring - 2000 pts

This weekend is the first semi-annual club event for 2011.

DB Cooper Con is held in a secret location with tons of food, drink and fun to be had!

It is always an in your face Bash Fest and I usually bring Power Armor...this year I thought I would change it up a bit and attempt to exact some revenge/redemption for games past!

Tournament - Everyone plays a DIFFERENT MISSION AND DEPLOYMENT ???

I just got back from a local W/L/D Tourney with Victory Points Tie-breaker...I will post results and Batreps later.

The Mission and Deployment was rolled for EACH TABLE and for EACH ROUND ???

Everyone played a different game. It was like I payed $$$ to play 3 games at my FLGS...

Questions for you:

HOW DO YOU GAUGE THE FIELD IF EVERYONE IS PLAYING A DIFFERENT GAME ?

1500 pt RTT - Tournament this Saturday

So, I was getting everything ready for my Mech IG debut this Saturday and low and behold, I find this article over on Capture and Control, thanks Disdainful!

It is a great read and concise material for those prepping for RTT's.

I would like to get some shots of my Mech IG up before the RTT but time will tell.

KY Con II Battle Reports 2/12/11 Game 4 vs Chaos

The fourth and final game of the day was against Mini-Me playing Chaos.

We had faced off once before at DBCC Fall 2009, he played Chaos then as well.
He had some great looking Oblits.

We were back on the first table I played on Game 1...I loved this table.

Mech IG vs AirCav IG 1500 pts

I tried for REDEMPTION yesterday against the nigh unbeatable IG AirCav list.
For those unfamiliar with this list, it is a Codex IG version of Elysians.

So, I playtested a few lists this past weekend against some pretty tough competition.

There is a 1500 pt RTT coming up in a few weeks and I am going to hit the LGS tomorrow to test a few lists out against some pretty hard competitors.

My Imperial Guard is designed around the Inquisition theme...I usually use an allied Inquisitor (WH) though the DH works well also...both are to get an Assassin.
